About The Gist

Clarity is under assault. Independence is the way.

The Gist is an audience-backed media platform built by Bangladeshis on the ground and supported by Our People around the world, for those who need clearer language, sharper context, and journalism that does not kneel to power.

What We Hold

Independence is not a mere slogan. Here, it is the modus operandi: no corporate donors, no hidden agenda.

Origin

Why The Gist exists

Politics does not operate only through laws, police, or elections. It also operates through language, framing, emphasis, and omission. What is repeated becomes common sense. What is softened becomes acceptable. What is excluded becomes invisible.

July ’24 proved that ordinary Bangladeshis can take control of public language and create a different kind of public space. The Gist was born to keep this pro-people space in operation. Not for politicians. Not for journalists who serve power. For you, me, and the regular Bangladeshis around us, at home and abroad.

Built by Bangladeshis on the ground, The Gist is a bridge for the voices of Our People from all over the world.

Media Landscape

A media space for the people and by the people is our agenda.

The corporate-owned media ecosystem serves power unashamedly, prioritizing political convenience and faux outrage cycles. Crucial information is deliberately buried. Public Interest is never represented.

The Gist occupies a different space: independent, audience-backed, and explicitly for the Public Interest. We pursue clarity unashamedly and promote storytelling that treats Bangladeshis as citizens rather than targets.

How We Stay Independent

  • No corporate donors. No hidden agenda.
  • Subscriptions and readers’ gifts are the core of our funding model.
  • Social media and events contribute a portion of our funding but capitalize define the editorial mission.
Media Landscape

The current media landscape is crowded, but not balanced. Instead of centering personalities, we want to show the structural split between media that serves power and media that serves people.

Editorial Promise

Independent Public Interest Journalism

The Gist is not chasing neutrality as performance. We are chasing truth and clarity for the people who have to live with the consequences of how structural power operates.

That means we care about how stories are framed, what gets centered, what gets repeated, and what gets erased. We want to help people name power more clearly and understand Bangladesh more fully.
